Croatia may be ready to close the European Union negotiations on 23 June, some diplomats have suggested.
Several European diplomats have mentioned this date as a possible deadline for finishing Croatia’s European Union negotiations. Croatia hopes to bring these to an end before the final days of June. Brussells has concluded that the government has invested a lot of efforts in fulfilling the remaining conditions for entrance.
This would mark a change in Europe's attitude, the daily 24 Sata writes. They credit the lobbying efforts of the head of the National Committee for Monitoring of the Accession Negotiations Vesna Pusic, the European Commission VP Jose Manuel Barroso, as well as German Chancellor Angela Merkel for these changes.
Merkel praised Croatia for the progress it accomplished and in conversation with the Hungarian PM said that she is "looking forward’ to Croatia’s entry into the EU.
